Royal Opera House installs overhead gantry

The Royal Opera House in London’s Covent Garden has installed a 36 tonne, 28m span overhead gantry system, made by Sheffield-based Street CraneXpress, to shift equipment and scenery. Capable of lifting even the fattest lady opera singer, it can move up to 20 tonnes at 300mm/second. The system is staffed by up to 12 technicians and can be remotely controlled from the stage or from on-board the gantry. It also features a mobile access platform which can be extended to any point between the gantry and the floor.
