Saab Bofors Dynamics has today been awarded a contract worth over 53 million Euros by MBDA UK to continue work on the Meteor European air-to-air missile.

As a result of its involvement in the Meteor European air-to-air missile project, Saab Bofors Dynamics has today received a further development order from the main contractor MBDA UK. The contract is worth MSEK 485 (53,688,181 Euros).

‘Meteor will call for our best capabilities in several core areas, and will benefit us and the Swedish Armed Forces,’ said Gunnar SprÃ¥ng, business unit manager at Air- and Sea Missile Systems.

The contract includes work on the systems and homing device, testing, and development of telemetry units. Saab has already received orders from MBDA UK for development and production of the proximity fuse, and integration of Meteor on Gripen aircraft.

In addition to the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration, authorities in the UK, Germany, Italy, France and Spain are also involved in the new air-to-air missile project. The industrial project is being led by MBDA, in partnership with Saab Bofors Dynamics and Spain’s INMIZE.
