Samsung to construct floating LNG facility

Shipbuilder Samsung Heavy Industries has received a KRW1.32tn order to build a floating natural-gas facility for Royal Dutch Shell, a global group of energy and petrochemicals companies.

Samsung Heavy and Technip, a French oil and gas producer, will design, construct and install multiple floating liquefied natural gas (LNG) facilities.

The order, for which a price is yet to be agreed, is the first in an agreement signed by Samsung last year to construct LNG facilities for Shell for up to 15 years.

Shell will produce 3.5 million metric tons of LNG from a proposed floating LNG facility in offshore Western Australia for 2016.
