Saving energy

VPhase, a Cheshire-based developer of voltage control products, has entered into a non-exclusive agreement with British Gas to supply and distribute its energy saving devices to all British Gas customers.

Under the government’s Carbon Emissions Reduction Target (CERT) programme, British Gas expects to spend up to £1bn on energy saving products over the next three years.

British Gas, which is part of Centrica, is in the process of conducting independent trials on a number of VPhase devices. If results are successful, the company hopes to distribute the products to its UK electrical, heating installation and maintenance markets.

Centrica and VPhase will also work together to develop a strategy on the introduction of the product to the North American residential and business services market through Centrica-owned Direct Energy.

Lee Juby, chief executive officer at VPhase, said: ‘This arrangement with British Gas Services is further endorsement for VPhase’s voltage reduction and regulation technology.

‘Consumers are facing ever higher utility bills, so energy efficiency is becoming increasingly important.’
