’The announcement from Siemens and UK Associated British Ports…is a fantastic boost for our offshore wind sector and further evidence that international companies are confident in our ability to deliver capacity and ‘green energy’,’ said Dominic Brown, head of GROW:OffshoreWind.
The new facility will produce rotor blades for wind turbines rated at 6MW, with a new logistics and service centre planned for also for the area.
Siemens and Associated British Ports (ABP) will be investing a total of €371m at the project sites, which are set to create 1,000 jobs, with 550 of these in rotor blade production and 450 in Green Port Hull. Other jobs will follow in the construction industry and supply industry.
Brown said: ‘There has been a long-term commitment to making this happen and the…investment will immediately create new jobs with the potential for hundreds more in the associated supply chains.
‘This is where GROW:OffshoreWind can really make a difference. Our service has been shaped by industry leaders to deliver the technical expertise, market intelligence and access to technology centres that can help SMEs take advantage of this growing opportunity.
‘We can also provide grants of up to £500,000 to firms looking for upfront investment to get ready for entry into the offshore wind sector.’
