Siemens to build an Austrian ADONIS

The Siemens Information and Communication Mobile Group has received a contract worth 190 million Euros to set up a Terrestrial Trunked Radio security radio network in Austria.

The Siemens Information and Communication Mobile Group (IC Mobile) has received a contract worth 190 million Euros to set up a nationwide TETRA (Terrestrial Trunked Radio) security radio network in Austria.

The first stage is scheduled to go into operation in the spring of 2003; completion of the entire system is planned for 2005.

Siemens IC Mobile will construct the security radio network ‘ADONIS’ (Austrian Digital Operating Network for Integrated Services) with over 1,200 transmitting stations.

The Austrian Ministry of the Interior has chosen Mastertalk, a consortium of Siemens AG and the Viennese municipal utility, as carrier for the ADONIS network. ADONIS is based on the European standard for digital trunked radio technology.

With the Schengen Agreement the EU-Commission calls for a uniform radio standard for security and emergency services to enable cross-border communication independent of network suppliers.
