Siemens to modernise Indonesian telephone network

PT Telkom has awarded the Siemens Information and Communication Networks Group a contract worth around 12 million Euros for the supply and installation of its EWSD technology.

The Indonesian carrier PT Telkom has awarded the Siemens Information and Communication Networks Group (IC Networks) an order worth around 12 million Euros for the supply and installation of its EWSD digital switching system.

According to a statement, PT Telkom will use Siemens technology to modernise and expand its network in Indonesia’s second largest city, Surabaya, East Java.

The main purpose of this network consolidation is to reduce the number of exchanges currently operated as hosts by using remote switching units (RSU).

With the use of RSUs, four exchanges operated as hosts can be replaced by just one exchange (host) using three remote switching units. This is said to lead to savings in billing processes, subscriber management and maintenance.

The first consolidation of a network using EWSD RSU was implemented successfully in Jakarta one year ago.
