As well as being used in the traditional way, ie securing the nut in position before fitting the bolt, a method of pre-assembling items for blind assembly has been introduced by Rapid.
For pre-assembly applications, the nut, with its helical cage, can be secured to the bolt through the top plate prior to engaging the cage in the blind hole and tightening. Once assembled, the action of tightening the bolt further draws the nut up the cage spiral, rotating it through 90 degrees, at which point the nut is then in contact with the inner plate, locking the assembly in position.
Disassembly can take place without losing the nut. The nut and its cage are left inside the blind hole when the bolt is removed.
