If an industry drive aimed at making the car industry leaner achieves its aims then the above may not be as unlikely as it sounds.
The theoretical result of the Three-Day Car Project – involving, amongst others, Bundy, VAG, Ford, Peugeot and the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council – is to enable a customer to choose a car on Monday, and for it to be built and delivered by Thursday.It is hoped that knowledge garnered from the programme will be ploughed back into the automotive industry as a whole, where it will enable manufacturers and suppliers to improve efficiency and reduce wastage.
