Statoil awards Aker Kvaener mooring deal

Statoil has awarded Aker Kvaerner a contract worth a total of NOK 90m (£7.6m) for the delivery of mooring winches and fairleads for Statoil's Gjøa Semi semi-submersible production platform.

The work will be undertaken by Aker Kvaerner’s Pusnes subsidiary in Arendal and constitutes supply of on-vessel mooring equipment to the platform in the Gjøa field in the North Sea. The equipment, roller ram winches and fairleads for chain, are to be delivered and installed at Aker Kvaerner Stord.

Sixteen roller ram winches and sixteen underwater fairleads will be used to pull in and secure 150mm chains used in the mooring lines. Integrated safety features include alarm systems, load monitoring, intelligent sensors and emergency stop.

The equipment will be manufactured in Europe with delivery scheduled between January and August 2008.
