Siemens VAI Metals Technologies has received an order from Atoun Steel Industry (ASi) for the supply and installation of all process equipment for a new minimill to be built at Yanbu, Saudi Arabia.
Following a construction period of two years, the plant will be capable of producing a total of close to one million tonnes of liquid steel and half a million tonnes of reinforcement bars and rounds per year. The order volume amounts to more than €100m.
Siemens VAI will supply all process equipment including a 80/100-tonne electric arc furnace (EAF), a 5-strand billet caster and a long-product rolling milling outfitted with the high-performance red ring rolling-mill stands. The EAF will be designed in such a way so as to enable hot DRI charging in the future.
Siemens VAI will also be responsible for the engineering, installation, start-up and commissioning of the new minimill.
