Indian iron ore mining, processing and exporter MSPL plans to invest $278m over the next three years to build new wind farms in a move that will almost double its production of green energy.
'We plan to increase wind power generation capacity to 400MW by 2010,' said Narendra Kumar Baldota, the chairman of MSPL.
With 191MW of installed capacity, MSPL is already one of the country's largest independent wind power producers. Most of its wind power projects are in Maharashtra, Gujarat and Karnataka.
The country itself is the fourth largest producer of wind power after Germany, Spain and the US, with 7,093MW of installed generation capacity.
MSPL, part of the Baldota group of companies, diversified into the wind power generation arena from iron ore mining in 2000.
