Substation upgrade

ABB has won an order worth $63m from the Saudi Electricity Company to upgrade 15 substations in Saudi Arabia’s Eastern and Central provinces.

The substations, spread over an area of around 1,000km, range from 13.8kV to 230kV. The upgrade is expected to help distribute more power in order to meet increasing industrial and residential demands.

ABB said that it will provide a turnkey solution including design, engineering, supply, installation, testing and commissioning.

The Swiss company’s scope of supply includes power transformers, medium-voltage switchgear, protection and control equipment and SCADA (supervisory control and data acquisition) power monitoring and control solutions.

The project is scheduled for completion in 2011.
