Sunny delight

This looks like very good news (The dawn of the solar power station). It is all very well Nicholas Ekins-Daukes saying that this will be expensive compared with coal. The point is that we are going to have to drastically cut back on coal and oil use to meet our 80 per cent carbon reduction target by 2050, and this type of solar power appears to be the only technology known to man that can do it.

’Clean Coal’ is no such thing – it is only expected to remove two thirds of carbon at best and this is simply not good enough.

Furthermore, only minute-scale tests have so far been carried out. It is a very immature technology.

Nuclear power will only provide 10 per cent of electrical energy at best in the UK. Roll on solar power.
