Supercar creator speaks at The Engineer Conference, 6-8 June 2017, NEC

The Engineer Conference

The latest speaker to sign up for The Engineer Conference, taking place at Subcon 6-8 June 2017 at the NEC, is Neill Briggs, technical director of the Briggs Automotive Company, who will tell the story behind the creation of the BAC Mono, the first road-legal single-seater supercar in the world. As Jeremy Clarkson said: “It’s called the Mono, and it’s amazing.”  You can see him driving it here.

Carl Perrin, director of the Academy of Manufacturing Excellence at Coventry University, the ‘faculty on the show floor’, will also be talking about bridging the skills gap with production-ready graduates and technology transfer with Ford and Aston Martin.

Delving into manufacturing methods we have Marc Saunders, director – global solutions centres at Renishaw, who will be talking about accelerating adoption of additive manufacturing (metal 3D printing) and how it can be viable for series production. Taking a different perspective, Michael Ward, chief technology officer of the Advanced Forming Research Centre, will look at how additive manufacturing is not the only way route to net shape parts.

And, finally, a team from Birmingham City University and Meridien will look developing new applications for magnesium for low-volume automotive and aerospace companies.
