The University of Surrey is one of the UK’s top professional, scientific and technological universities. Named as The Times and Sunday Times University of the Year 2016, Surrey has a world-class profile and a leading reputation in teaching and research.

Since 2000, our estate has been transformed through a £400 million building development and improvement programme – including £130 million on student accommodation, £36 million on Surrey Sports Park, £16 million on the new Library and Learning Centre and £4.5 million on the Ivy Arts Centre.

The Faculty of Engineering and Physical Sciences

The Faculty covers the core engineering disciplines of aeronautical engineering, civil engineering, chemical engineering, electronic engineering and mechanical engineering alongside the specific disciplines of chemistry, computing, mathematics and physics.

We have an outstanding reputation for excellence in research and teaching, a strong enterprise culture and an excellent record of graduate employment.

Our academics are well respected, both nationally and internationally, throughout academia and industry where our links are strong. We believe that a university should contribute to the cultural wealth of society by developing the mainstay sciences, while enhancing the technology to improve the overall quality of life.

In the 2014 Research Exercise Framework (REF), 98 per cent of our research outputs were rated to be world-leading, internationally excellent or internationally recognised in terms of originality, significance and rigour.

New chemical engineering facility

Construction has begun on a new £1.7m facility which will include a fully operational pilot process plant, due to open in September 2017.

The new facility will become the flagship area for undergraduate teaching within the Department of Chemical and Process Engineering, giving students access to state-of-the-art equipment that replicates what they will eventually use in industry.

Engineering for Health

At the University of Surrey we believe that future healthcare will be interdisciplinary, collaborative and technology-driven. The aim of our Engineering for Health programme is to produce the professionals who will drive this change.

Surrey’s £12.5m Engineering for Health facility will train the professionals driving technology innovation in tomorrow’s health service.
