Faulhaber launched a new generation of metal brush commutated motors, the 1024…SR series with a diameter of 10mm. In combination with a gearhead, its output torque can achieve 300 mNm, twice that of similar products on the market. Thanks to a superior torque/speed ratio (flat slope) the motor can handle varying loads at reduced speed variations, thus granting smooth control. This performance is achieved with very low noise and vibration levels. A wide range of matching speed and motion controllers, encoders, and gearheads allow for optimal adaption in high-demand applications like portable devices or optical equipment.

The huge improvement in power and torque achieved by the 1024…SR series is based on a redesign of nearly all of the motor’s elements, including a new coil, a new commutation system and a new magnet. This results in a significantly wider speed range under load, delivering a continuous torque of 1.5mNm at 7,500rpm and exhibiting an output power above 3W. The voltage can be chosen between 6V and 12V.

A uniquely wide range of combination elements helps to transform the motor’s power into high-end performance. It can be joined with either a magnetic or with an optical encoder when electromagnetic interference has to be excluded. The optional combination with a 12/4 planetary gearhead – the only one of its kind on the market – delivers the highest power output levels available with motors of this class. Another unique feature is the length of the encoder-motor-gearhead combination, which can remain below 51mm in a four-stage reduction configuration. The optional zero backlash spur gearhead eliminates rotating play and grants high accuracy at a competitive price. The 1024…SR series provides extended lifetime by integrating spark suppression circuitry that minimizes the degrading effect on brushes and collector. The resulting clean commutation signal also enhances the accuracy of motor control.

The 1024…SR motor is ideal for high-demand applications, and its ability to offer high performance with small dimensions and low weight make it a good choice for all portable devices. Its low vibration levels enable its use in high accuracy applications, such as in optical equipment or high precision tools. An optional ball bearing version makes it also suitable for applications with radial loads. The motor is also available with a second shaft end, in a vacuum and in an extended temperature range version (-30 to + 125°C).

EMS (Electro Mechanical Systems)

EMS was founded in mid-1985 and quickly established itself as the leading supplier of high-quality precision small DC motors and linear actuators. We are sole UK distributors for the whole Faulhaber Group, including Minimotor, Precistep, MPS and Piezomotor; manufacturers and suppliers of precision micro-drives, including DC motors; brushless motors; stepper motors; linear motors and associated gearheads and encoders.

Complementary products include iron-core DC motors from KAG, stepper motors and brushed DC motors from Nidec Servo and brushed and brushless gear motors from Nidec Motors & Actuators. In addition we distribute high quality linear actuators and telescopic columns from SKF and Mingardi, used extensively in medical; healthcare; agriculture; building automation and many other industries.

With sustained growth we looked to diversify our product offering and in 1990 established our own manufacturing facility. Growth has been maintained with repeated expansion culminating in the acquisition of an eighth unit in 2010 resulting in an overall floor area to 2,200m². We have a large capacity machine shop equipped with the latest CNC machine tools and a dedicated gear cutting suite, as well as substantial assembly area. EMS offers design engineers a complete service; our scope of supply stretches from the supply of proprietary motors, gearheads, encoders and actuation devices, right the way through to added value in the way of pinions and wiring looms, to bespoke design and manufacture of complete drive mechanisms and actuation systems to meet your exact applications needs.

Located across two sites, our Head office, design and manufacturing is based in Poole, Dorset and sales, order processing, administration and warehousing located in Aldermaston, Berkshire.

Our commitment to quality and service remains as strong as ever and is reflected in our management system and strong emphasis on continuous improvement, resulting in our accreditation to EN ISO9001:2008 at both sites.
