In October 2007 the Optical-Audible Combinations 424 and 425 won the design prize Focus in Silver. Awarded for excellent design, the prize rewards all those products that have gained a leading position due to their exceptional design qualities.

The Stuttgart Design Centre, an institution of the federal state of Baden Wuerttemberg, awarded the international design prize in the category Health and Safety at Work to WERMA Signaltechnik. While taking into consideration the usual design criteria, the jury judging the Focus in Silver 2007 placed special emphasis on the aspects of product safety and functionality. Awards were given to products where safety plays a central role in design considerations and where the product functionality succeeded in communicating and delivering safety.

The Optical-Audible Combinations 424 and 425 successfully combine functional requirements and aesthetic form. Employing clearly understood symbols, the devices reveal their function even in a non-operative state: The brilliantly illuminated dome defines the optical signal, while the horn clearly indicates its role as an audible signal device.

The award-winning LED/Horn Combination addresses two senses for double safety: In addition to the signal for the ear, the signal device emits a light signal for the human eye. The prize winning product successfully combines elegance and functionality: The light dome and the conical horn merge seamlessly to form an attractive signal device in a compact design. In addition, using state of the art technology, the product has a life of up to 5,000 hours, 10 times the life of standard horns. The sound output can be adjusted up to a level of 98dB.

Once again, with this latest award, WERMA products have been commended for their outstanding design qualities. In 2005 and 2006 products from the signal technology manufacturer also received the internationally acclaimed awards red dot and iF-Design for their impressive designs.

WERMA is the leading manufacturer of a wide range of Beacons and Sounders and accessories, often referred to as stack lights, signal towers and Andon systems. Products are designed and made at the HQ in Germany and the full range is available from its UK operation based in Wellingborough.

The range consists of signal towers and beacons available with both LEDs and filament bulbs together with a comprehensive range of sounders; sirens, buzzers and horns in a wide range of sound output levels.

Principal function is to provide optical and audible warning of machine fault or machine shop danger where such beacons and sounders are commonly installed.

Andon lights, as beacons are now commonly referred to, are often used as “call for action” systems to improve efficiency of for example line side supply of components. Manually operated lights alert remote departments wirelessly to resolve calls for action.

Many innovative features such as USB connectivity and wireless monitoring systems are also available.

There is also a comprehensive range of ex-proof signal products compliant with the latest ATEX directives.

The full range of products can be found on www.werma.co.uk where an Eshop facility is available for all major credit cards.

All WERMA products are manufactured to strictly controlled quality standards (DIN EN ISO 9001:2000).
