Able Instruments and Controls has released the Computrac Max 5000XL moisture and ash analyser, which has a temperature-controlled balance to provide users with more stable and accurate measurements.

The Computrac Max 5000XL also features a temperature ramp control feature that allows the Max 5000XL to be used for qualitative analyses that were previously only possible using a thermogravimetric analyser (TGA).

The Max 5000XL features the same user interface and design as its predecessor, the Max 5000.

The Max 5000XL is designed to accurately analyse materials with ash concentrations of as little as 0.5 per cent.

Results gained from this test are similar to a scan performed by a thermogravimetric analyser.

This feature effectively transforms the Max 5000XL into a dual-use instrument capable of quantitatively testing for moisture and ash and qualitatively testing for the presence of certain organic or inorganic ingredients, as well as the degradation temperature of the material under test.

The device can measure moisture or solids from 0.1 per cent to 99.9 per cent in minutes.

It can take sample sizes from 200mg to 100gm and can handle temperatures from 25-600C, with temperature ramping in 1C increments for sample characterisation.

It has a linked test capability for multiple results from a single sample.

It also has an inert gas purge capability.

Security access codes protect programs or instrument settings.

It stores up to 250 user-programmable parameter settings.

A statistical function calculates mean, standard deviation and coefficient of variation between tests.

Additional features include: customisable test parameters to optimise results; flexible ending criteria; ashing-rate program controls ignition to minimise flashing; real-time graphing of weight loss, rate and end-point prediction; foil and syringe weight entry mode for the most volatile samples; nitrogen gas purge that minimises oxidation of samples and flashing of volatiles; weight control to aid operators and improve test precision; and a cast-aluminium case that is dirt and vibration resistant.
