The ACT linear-servomotor-driven actuator from Aerotech offers a high-speed, high-acceleration and maintenance-free alternative to ballscrews and belt drives in applications such as assembly, pick-and-place machines, electronic assembly and qualification, vision inspection, dispensing, life sciences, image scanning and processing and inkjet printing.

The linear motor that drives the ACT series features a non-magnetic forcer coil that provides high force with zero cogging for smooth velocity and position control — this is particularly suitable for applications requiring excellent contour accuracy and smooth velocity profiling.

It has zero backlash, no wind-up, zero friction and excellent system responsiveness and the magnetic field is self-contained within the U-channel design.

The ACT actuator is said to be faster and more accurate than a ballscrew or a belt drive. In addition, less maintenance is required.
