Allied Images is to showcase its scanning and document management solutions – including the Atiz Bookdrive Pro book scanner – at Ipex 2010 at the NEC in Birmingham.

The company will also highlight the Colortrac Ci24 – a small and affordable large-format scanner, the Image Access Widetek 25 large-format flatbed scanner, Copystation, Allied’s large-format multifunction device (MFD) and the M-Files document management system with a Plustek small-format document scanner.

Allied Images has been appointed as the UK distributor for the Atiz range of Bookdrive book scanners.

Bookdrive is said to solve the problems inherent in many book scanners, including page curvature, damage to the book spine and low productivity.

It uses a V-shaped glass and book cradle that hold the book open at a non-damaging angle for scanning by high-speed, high-resolution digital SLR (DSLR) cameras.

Allied said this design guarantees sharp, curvature-free images in every scan.

Bookdrive cameras capture both left- and right-hand pages simultaneously with each shot taking less than a second, allowing the user to capture up to 800 pages per hour.

The scanners are supplied with Bookdrive Capture and Editor Pro software applications.

The capture application that controls the cameras supports a range of Canon EOS DSLR cameras and allows the user to change the camera settings directly from the software.

Editor Pro is for post-scan image processing and provides all the functionality needed to convert the scanned images into final output ready for archiving or distribution.

Bookdrive is available in Mini, DIY and Pro versions.

The SmartLF Colortrac Ci24 is described as a fast, accurate and affordable 24in-wide technical document scanner that is easy to use with instant-on desktop scanning and copying to any workstation or printer across a network.

The small front load/front exit SmartLF Ci24 large-format scanner is said to be ideal for operation in smaller workspaces and in multiple locations.

It can be installed and ready to go in minutes as the solid-state 600dpi contact image sensors (CIS) need no alignment and the LED light system requires no warm-up time or calibration.

The Widetek scanner family from Image Access includes sheet feed scanners for documents from 36in up to 48in in width, flatbed scanners for formats up to DIN A2 as well as wide-format duplex scanners for double-sided printed documents up to 36in in width.

Widetek 25 is a fast, high-resolution flatbed scanner for photo-realistic colour scans for formats up to 25 x 17.7in (ISO/DIN A2) and unlimited thickness.

The flatbed scan-glass offers the user the flexibility to scan most things, including fragile and uneven materials.

Users will be able to scan bound documents, textiles, original artwork even stretcher mounted, and virtually any uneven material.

Its high scan speed – an A2 original scanned at 300dpi in 3.2sec – coupled with the optional foot-pedal control gives the user a highly productive scanning tool.

Widetek 25 is said to have a high scan speed, dust-protected and encapsulated optical components and absence of consumable parts, making it an efficient production-ready device.

It also features a 50,000-hour lifetime LED illumination system.

Widetek scanners are connected directly to the user’s network and operated using a standard web browser, giving them complete operating independence so they can be accessed from any workstation whether it is running MS Windows, Apple Mac OSX, Unix, Linux, and so on.

The Copystation MFD family of large-format multifunction systems is said to provide maximum flexibility for scanning, copying and printing needs.

These multifunction devices are for users that need to optimise their scanning, copying and printing operations with cost-effective and easy-to-use solutions.

The MFDs are based on Colortrac SmartLF scanners allied with Canon Imageprograf or Hewlett Packard Designjet printers.

The MFDs are configured with stands that position the scanner above the printer to provide a single compact footprint that makes the best use of office space.

The MFD allows users to scan, copy and print from the same system.

Users can make single or multiple copies of large-format documents from a single scan.

The copies may be full-size or enlargements or reductions of up to 1,000 per cent.

Also, users can use the scanner and printer independently to scan full-size documents to file capturing images in colour, greyscale or monochrome, while printing documents up to 42in wide.

Copystation is said to be ideal for copy-shops, reprographics and full-colour graphics up to 42in width.

M-Files is an electronic document management system that solves the problems of managing, finding and tracking documents in information-intensive organisations.

The process of constantly creating and revising different file types associated with different software applications can leave a company’s electronic files in chaos.

M-Files’ host of features allows streamlining of document management processes and provides an easy-to-use solution to document and information disarray.
