Artesis is demonstrating its Plant Condition Monitor (PCM) solution at Maintec 2009.

Building on the success of the Artesis Motor Condition Monitoring (MCM) system for electric motors, PCM has been specifically developed to work with generators and is suitable for a wide range of applications including turbo alternators, diesel generators, and wind turbines.

By monitoring the condition of generators and their prime movers, effectively using the generator itself as a sophisticated transducer, PCM is simpler to use and more cost effective than other conventional systems, said the company.

It uses NASA-developed technology to provide automated set-up and fault diagnosis with minimal user intervention, making it suitable for equipment in inaccessible or hazardous environments.

PCM provides a monitoring and assessment solution for machinery by continuously taking measurements and comparing them with its reference condition, in order to assess the severity and type of any developing fault.

When PCM detects a fault, it presents the results of its analysis to the user in a simple traffic light display.

This provides local staff with an immediate indication that a problem is developing.

Detailed diagnostic information is provided by means of its standard networking facilities, and covers a range of mechanical and electrical problems including imbalance, misalignment, bearing damage, gearbox faults, isolation, plus many others.
