ATI Stellram is supplying a range of tools for a student motor racing team’s engineering workshop.

The metal cutting solutions company is sponsoring Team Bath Racing (TBR), a 17-strong group of mainly automotive engineers studying for Masters degrees at Bath University and competing in the IMechE Formula Student competition.

ATI Stellram has supplied a selection of tools from its Rapide solid-carbide endmill programme for machining a number of custom-made aluminium car components.

The company has also agreed to demonstrate its cutting-tool know-how to the team as it prepares its race car for the event at Silverstone on 15-18 July.

TBR will take on other university racing teams in the annual contest, which forms part of an international competition in which engineering students from around the world are challenged to design and build a single-seat racing car.

Team manager Tanmay Dube said: ‘In the past, some of the tools used in the workshop have not been exactly the right ones but, with input from ATI Stellram, we’ve now been able to identify the correct tools for our applications.

‘I’m confident the tools will help improve the quality of our machining process on custom-made components such as the car’s oil sump and rear-chassis backplate,’ added Tanmay.
