Autodesk has unveiled plans for its Inventor Fusion Technology: digital prototyping technology that unites the control of parametric, history-based modelling with direct, history-free modelling.

Andrew Anagnost, vice-president of computer-aided design (CAD) and computer-aided engineering (CAE) for Autodesk Manufacturing Solutions, said: ‘Just as manufacturers need both 3D and 2D design tools, we believe manufacturers need the full power of both parametric, history-based modelling and direct modelling.’ This technology is suitable for companies that need to make rapid changes to a design through direct manipulation, but also have many years’ worth of feature- and history-based data and design intent that they need to access, use and maintain.

This enables users to adopt the modelling approach that is most appropriate to the task at hand.

Using Inventor Fusion Technology, designers and engineers can explore what-if scenarios and make rapid design changes without the limitations of feature order, dependencies or the original 3D CAD system used to create the design.

Context-sensitive, point-of-access tools present only what is needed right at the cursor, thus moving the user’s attention from toolbars and dialogue boxes and refocusing it on directly manipulating their digital prototypes.

Autodesk products are used by 9 million professionals in 185 countries to save time and money, gain competitive advantage, and change the way ideas are brought to life.

Building Information Modelling

Autodesk building information modelling (BIM) software solutions facilitate a new way of working that involves the creation and use of co-ordinated, consistent information–enabling faster decision-making, better documentation and the ability to predict performance before ground is ever broken.

Sustainable by Design

As a global 2D and 3D design software leader, Autodesk believes in the importance of driving sustainable design awareness and adoption. We provide technology, education, and support for programs that inform and promote innovations addressing current and future sustainable design challenges.

We are committed to partnering with the private and public sector, industry leaders, educators, and environmentally focused organizations to create a forum to initiate sustainable design dialogue and increase awareness among the global community. It is our hope that through these collective efforts and Autodesk’s technology, we will help architects, engineers, and designers create a more sustainable world.
