Avago Technologies has added two miniature 0.25W analogue variable gain amplifiers to its portfolio of amplifier products for use in cellular infrastructure applications.

Housed in a 5 x 5 x 1.1mm, 10-lead module package, Avago’s ALM-80110/80210 variable-gain amplifiers feature a common footprint for integration into most base-station designs.

The amplifiers offer high linearity and dynamic range performance, and support all major cellular bands in North America, Europe and Asia.

The ALM-80110 operates from 0.4 to 1.6GHz, while the ALM-80210 operates from 1.6 to 2.7GHz and is suitable for use in WLL, WLAN, transmitter-receiver gain control and temperature-compensation circuitry applications.

Both amplifiers provide a high output third order intercept point (OIP3) level of 40dBm that is maintained over a wide attenuation range.

The devices feature a wide gain control range, low power consumption and good input- and output-return loss.

Avago’s ALM-80110/80210 variable gain amplifiers incorporate a system which integrates Avago’s 0.25W amplifiers and silicon pin-diode-based pie attenuator into a miniature multiple-chips-on-board module package.

Both amplifiers feature broadband fully-matched input and pre-matched output for ease of use and require a minimum amount of external RF matching components.

They also include Avago’s 0.25um Gaas enhancement-mode Phempt process and low-distortion silicon pin-diode technologies.

In a typical operating environment of 5V and 120mA, the ALM-80110 delivers performance of 40dBm OIP3, 40dB attenuation range, 23.3dBm output power at 1dB compress point (P1dB), 13.5dB gain, 17dB input-return loss (IRL) and 12dB output-return loss (ORL) at 900MHz.

Under the same operating conditions, the ALM-80210 offers 40dBm OIP3, 35.7dB attenuation range, 23.5dBm output power at P1dB, 9.8dB gain, 13.6dB IRL and 12.1dB ORL at 1900MHz.
