Axium Process has designed, built and commissioned a self-contained ultra-filtration membrane plant for waste management company Waste Recycling Group (WRG).

WRG is successfully treating up to 140,000 litres of landfill leachate per day at a site in North Lincolnshire.

The company reviewed a number of technologies designed to treat landfill leachate that would not only meet local water discharge requirements but also increase the efficiency and effectiveness of the biological treatment system.

Membrane filtration reduces the BOD and suspended solids content typical of leachate effluent, requires no dosing chemicals and can provide a smooth discharge flow that meets local water discharge legislation.

WRG selected Axium Process to conduct a series of trials to assess the suitability of membrane technology against its specific site demands, which resulted in the award of a GBP200,000 design and build contract.

Axium Process specialises in the design and build of custom-built manual and automatic systems that can provide payback times of less than two to three years.

The company’s services also include pilot testing, process simulation, technical support, full training and plant optimisation.
