Delcam has released the 2011 version of its Partmaker software, for programming turn-mill centres and Swiss-type lathes suitable for producing small, complex parts for medical devices and fluid power.

Highlights of Partmaker 2011 include a more powerful milling functionality, a more flexible tooling library, improved programming and simulation of bar-fed mills, more detailed mid-process documentation and a host of additional productivity enhancements.

A new way to manage tool inventory has been added based on the use of Master Tools Databases, which can be edited, manipulated and stored through external database programs such as Microsoft Excel.

Through this system, individual tools can be imported quickly for specific jobs.

This new approach makes programming more productive, as it allows users to choose tools that have already been created faster than before.

Bar-fed mill machine tool technology is increasingly being used for the production of small, complex parts for applications such as medical devices, aerospace and fluid power.

Partmaker aims to introduce a number of new features for handling the unique programming issues presented by bar-fed mills.

Improvements to the Partmaker Documentation Wizard include a number of new standard set-up sheet templates as well as the ability to create mid-process set-up sheets automatically.

These display a picture of the part being machined at each step in the machining process, as well as a graphical view of the tool used in that process.

They provide a clearer way to communicate to shop floor personnel exactly how a part should be processed and can thus speed up set-up time and reduce the possibility of errors.

In many cases, 3D simulation is more than 50 per cent faster than in previous versions.

This speed increase is particularly helpful when simulating the cutting of complex parts with large numbers of features.

The new version also lets the user see and verify all toolpaths in one sequence when programming on a solid model.

Delcam supplies software and services that help manufacturing companies to maximise their profitability by increasing productivity, improving quality and reducing lead times. The company is the world's largest specialist supplier of computer-aided machining software, with its PowerMILL, FeatureCAM, Partmaker and ArtCAM programs making up the most comprehensive range of CAM systems from any developer.

This broad selection allows Delcam to offer a CAM system capable of machining virtually any product, in any material on any type of equipment. Delcam also develops product design, tooling design and quality control programs. The unique Tribrid Modelling approach to design incorporates solid modelling, surface modelling and triangle modelling in a single program, enabling complete design and reverse engineering projects to be undertaken without transferring data between software.

Delcam's Powerinspect offers fast, reliable comparison of parts, prototypes and tooling against CAD data on all types of inspection equipment and even on machine tools. This versatility has made it the world's leading hardware-independent inspection software. Related programs are available for checking machine tool set-up and part location. Delcam software is used in over 80 countries worldwide by around 40,000 organisations, from large multi-nationals to small sub-contractors, in industries including aerospace, automotive, dental, engineering, footwear, medical and toolmaking.
