Bowers Metrology will be demonstrating its range of measuring instruments, including bore gauging systems, digital indicators and read-out units, at the GTMA Make Measurement Matter Roadshow, which is due to take place on 17 October 2013 at the Centre of Engineering and Manufacturing Excellence in Rainham, Essex.

One of the products demonstrated will be the two-point Microgauge bore gauging system, which has been designed for the accurate measurement of bores from 1–6mm. The compact gauge is said to be easy to use: locating the gauge’s hard-chromed, spherical contact points into the bore to be measured causes a mechanical force to be transferred to the gauge’s digital readout unit. This action instantly causes the bore’s size to be displayed on the unit’s high-visibility LCD readout.

A digital readout unit — the Sylvac D300S — will also be on display. The unit is claimed to be able to display the absolute displacement position of Sylvac’s transducer probes to a resolution of 0.1um. The read-out also benefits from being able to memorise previously input configurations and recalling individual or group preset values and is suitable for use within inspection departments or on the shop floor.

Bowers’ S Dial Work range of digital indicators will also be demonstrated. According to the company, the indicators are ‘shop-floor proof’ and are designed to operate within close proximity to machine tools. The eight-model range is said to be resistant to the entry of water and coolant.

Key features and specifications

  • Bore features such as ovality, taper and barrelling can be evaluated with the Microgauge
  • The Sylvac D300S has a 8.5in LCD digital display and is capable of accepting readings from two Sylvac probe inputs (P2-P50) and six USB inputs from Sylvac instruments
  • Each of the D300S’s channels has a separate maths function and all channels have switchable numeric/analogue and statistical displays
  • S Dial Work indicators are available with measuring capacities of 12.5mm and 25mm and a choice of 0.01mm and 0.001mm resolutions
  • S Dial Work indicators have a repeatability specification of 0.002mm and are able to transmit their readings via RS232, USB, Digimatic or wireless devices
