Bowers Metrology has launched the HB 1500 portable Brinell hardness tester, designed for the hardness testing of components on the shop floor.

Using a high-quality spherical steel indenter, the flexible tester is capable of three basic types of applications: bench, C-clamp and hammer-impact hardness testing.

The unit’s operating principle means that after making a physical impression on the metal surface being tested, the sample’s hardness value can be accurately determined using the built-in microscope and hardness tables.

Offering the user completely autonomous operation – as there are no power cables – the lightweight HB-1500 tester can be used in virtually any position and is able to test small and large samples with a test force of 1,580kgf, controlled by a shear pin.

With an accuracy specification in accordance with ISO 6506, demonstrations of the new hardness tester can be arranged through Bowers Metrology UK.
