Brevini has announced that it provides a maintenance service to some of the UK’s theme parks, offering repair and replacement of worn gearboxes to maximise drive system performance on rides.

Maintenance includes work on both heavy-duty bevel-helical gearboxes and compact, high-reduction planetary gearboxes, both of which Brevini UK is able to specify, supply and repair.

As with any machinery that is operating within the public domain, theme park and fairground rides need to be maintained to a very high standard.

Rides are often subjected to high stress loads and external conditions that, coupled with regular use, can mean that regular maintenance is required.

At the end of the theme park season, maintenance managers begin to think about the steps that need to be taken to ensure that rides meet the strict safety guidelines in the following year.

Brevini is able to service gearboxes using OE parts to rejuvenate them to their original specification, or can engineer solutions to replace gearboxes with new products that fit within the original drive’s footprint and improve performance and efficiency.

Two theme parks that Brevini has recently worked with are Pleasure Beach, Blackpool, and Pleasure Island in Cleethorpes.

In both instances, a service engineer visited the site to inspect each gearbox individually.

The engineer was then able to ascertain which drives would benefit from maintenance and which would be more cost effective to replace.

Dave Brown, Brevini sales manager, said: ‘We are able to identify whether a drive needs to be repaired or replaced depending on its use and the conditions it is subjected to.

‘Our service engineers are able to identify components that require service or, where necessary, design a whole new drive solution tailored to the parameters of the application,’ he added.

Brevini said it is able to commission OE replacement parts for most maintenance work at competitive rates.

When it is recommended that a drive be replaced, Brevini’s wide range of products means that in most cases it is possible to engineer a solution that will be more durable and have greater efficiency, while fitting within the original drive’s footprint – meaning no further re-engineering is required.

‘Our product catalogue includes planetary gears, which offer high reduction ratios with compactness and efficiency, as well as larger, heavy-duty helical and bevel-helical units,’ said Brown.

‘We also offer the solution of combining the two to create hybrid designs,’ he added.
