Broadbent Stanley has received a GBP600,000 order for CNC lathes from French oil industry company Vallourec and Mannesmann for installation in Nigeria.

The company and one of its distributors, Macrotec, combined resources to win the order for two large-capacity hollow-spindle CNC lathes from Vallourec and Mannesmann.

The French company placed the initial enquiry with a number of manufacturers globally, with a basic requirement for two 16in (400mm) hollow-spindle lathes with 1,000mm between centres.

The machines would come complete with auto turrets and front and rear chucks and integrated with auto oil pipe handling equipment for installation at the new high-technology maintenance facility in Port Harcourt, Nigeria.

From the discussions, it became apparent the customer did not have the resource in the new facility to tool and prove out its components, so a proposal was generated around a full turnkey package including the supply of all tooling, fixturing, prove-out, training and installation.

An order was placed for two of Broadbent Stanley’s Model SA 40 heavy-duty CNC slant-bed lathes, both with 16in (406mm) hollow spindles and 1,200mm between centres.

Schunk 800mm front- and rear-mounted chucks, 12-station Baruffaldi turrets and Broadbent Stanley’s patented thread repair software completed the specification.
