CGTech will exhibit the latest versions of its Vericut software products for machine-tool simulation and automated fibre placement (AFP) programming and simulation at this year’s Aero Engineering and Composites Engineering event.

The company will also present its new product for the programming and simulation of automated drilling and fastening machines used for airframe assembly.

The show is due to take place at the National Exhibition Centre in Birmingham on 7–8 November 2012. CGTech will be exhibiting on Stand 737.

Vericut Composites Applications software

  • This software product comprises the Vericut Composite Programming (VCP) and Vericut Composite Simulation (VCS) modules.
  • There will be demonstrations of projects that highlight the implementation and use of machine-independent offline NC programming software for AFP machines.
  • Current customer projects to be highlighted include: a large one-piece fuselage barrel on an Electroimpact multi-machine AFP fabrication cell; a U-channel structure on a seven-axis MTorres AFP machine; and aircraft skin panels and other parts using an AFP head mounted on six-axis robots from Kika, Fanuc and ABB.
  • Vericut Paths for Engineers (VCPe), a new software product within this suite, provides all of the programming features of VCP but not linked to a specific AFP machine; engineers can use VCPe to experiment with AFP lay-up strategies and production methods in a virtual environment.

Vericut CNC software

  • CGTech will present version 7.2 of its Vericut CNC machine simulation and optimisation software.
  • Vericut simulates all types of CNC machining, including aerospace processes such as the multi-axis milling, drilling and trimming of composite parts, waterjet cutting and robotic and mill/turn machining.
  • The software is used to simulate CNC machine tools from brands including Makino, Starrag Heckert, Heller, Matsuura, Mori Seiki-DMG and Yamazaki Mazak.
  • Vericut 7.2 is said to feature a range of enhancements over previous versions, including improved performance resulting from 64-bit processors and multi-threading.

Vericut Drilling and Fastening software

  • This new software application is designed for simulating and programming auto-drilling and fastening machines — these machines are used to assemble large aero-structures and it is essential to avoid programming errors and collisions at such a late stage in the aircraft manufacturing process.
  • Vericut allows the user to programme drilling and fastener assembly operations in a virtual machine-tool environment and provides simulation to check for a variety of potentially disastrous error conditions.
  • Like all Vericut software products, the new module interfaces to CAD/CAM/PLM systems such as Dassault Systemes CATIA and Siemens NX and is independent of the assembly machine manufacturer.
