Micro-Epsilon has introduced the Colorcontrol MFA series of benchtop multi-point measurement systems for the inspection of light-emitting diodes (LEDs). The range is suitable for applications such as LED tests, indication and displays, front panels, dashboard sequence tests and self-luminous object inspection.

The systems are targeted at manufacturers and developers of LED luminaires, including architectural and street lighting, and LED lighting for automotive interiors.

The entry-level Colorcontrol MFA-5 offers five measuring channels. It is compact and can verify the colour, intensity and colour temperature (in Kelvin) of up to five LEDs simultaneously. The measuring system is modular and can be extended by adding extra MFA-E modules in batches of five channels — up to a maximum of 20 modules (or 100 channels).

Micro-Epsilon customer Crescent Lighting uses the Colorcontrol MFA unit to test individual LEDs and says its speed of use, ease of setup and versatility are key assets.

  • The MFA series operates using optical fibres and can be used as a benchtop system for the inspection of LEDs or as an online, automated test system.
  • It enables LED colour recognition up to ±4nm; the digital colour sensor enables a colour depth of 12-bit resolution.
  • It is supplied with setup and configuration software as standard.
  • Optional features include UV, infrared, wide-angle and plastic optical fibres and optical fibres with increased vibration.
  • Glass fibres can be bonded for high-temperature environments; standard adhesive is suitable for temperatures of up to 80°C (using special adhesives, temperatures up to 250°C can be achieved); if stainless steel sheathing is used, temperatures can be increased even further to 400°C.
