Horst Schluckwerder, a manufacturer of marzipan and chocolate confectionery, has upgraded its packaging capabilities with the purchase of a LX100FF over-wrapper from Marden Edwards (ME).

The machine is providing a high-precision wrap to cartons with dimensions between 128 x 73 x 84mm and 164 x 73 x 84mm at a rate of 60 cartons per minute.

Previously, the company was achieving just 35 cartons per minute on ME’s entry-level B100FF wrapper, supplied 20 years ago.

When Schluckwerder decided it needed to increase its wrapping speed, it made contact with Kopp Verpackungssysteme, ME’s partner in Germany.

Kopp was asked to evaluate Schluckwerder’s packaging needs based on the specialised marzipan confectioners’ satisfaction with the performance and reliability of its existing ME machine.

LX series over-wrappers are designed to allow customisation for different pack sizes according to customers’ individual needs.

It can handle different sizes and types of pack styles, including an envelope end fold and concealed overlap on the bottom of the carton.

Standard features include a built-in variable-speed input, a low-level, side-load film spindle and a rapid-change format without tools.

Different options are available, including the installation of a print registration facility, a tear-tape applicator and the possibility to use uncoated paper with a cold glue joint.

Ludwig Goller, director of Kopp, said: ‘The enhanced electronics help users to track the daily output and keep better control of production.

‘The control system is also easy to manage and understand, which means operators find the machine very user friendly,’ added Goller.
