The Controlflex coupling from Schmidt-Kupplung was designed specifically for the requirements of shaft encoders.

The design of the middle element transmits torque at a constant angular velocity and accommodates all kinds of misalignment with very low restoring forces.

According to the company, this is essential for encoders because of their small and sensitive bearings.

The misalignment is compensated in-plane in a small envelope.

The aluminium hubs are anodised and provide protection against corrosion.

The coupling is electrically insulating, builds short and dampens vibration thanks to the material of the middle element.

The German coupling manufacturer is offering four series of these encoder couplings for different requirements.

The Standard series is suitable for all standard encoders and tachos, featuring a balanced design of precision with very low restoring forces to meet the requirements of today’s encoders.

It is available with outer diameters ranging from 19mm to 37mm and offers a maximum radial misalignment capacity depending on size up to 1mm and a maximum angular misalignment capacity up to 1.5 degrees.

The anodised clamp hubs are balanced for high-rev/min applications up to 25,000rev/min.

A modular construction is claimed to guarantee all bore combinations ranging from 3mm up to 20mm from stock.

The Impuls Plus series is designed for encoders with maximum accuracy.

It is predestined for encoders using a graduated disk with increased line counts or with fine measuring signals.

For applications where the coupling has to be integrated into a very tight axial space – such as where the coupling has to be mounted in a fixed housing – the Compact series is said to be the best solution.

The Industry series, meanwhile, provides an increased range of outer and bore diameters, particularly for industrial encoders with larger shaft dimensions.

The Schmidt-Kupplung is a compact, torsionally stiff shaft coupling for a large, variable radial shaft offset.

The balanced system transmits torque without adding side loads to the drive.

Schmidt-Kupplung is suitable for a range of applications, such as woodworking machines, roll forming machines, printing machines, packaging machines and paper making machines.

The precise coupling transmits torque under constant angular velocity at all possible offsets and is available with a torque range from 35Nm to 6.610Nm.

Semiflex is a torsionally stiff, precise shaft coupling, which is short in length to fit into small envelopes.

Radial shaft misalignment, depending on size up to 6.6mm, is compensated via the pivoting parallel movement of two pairs of coupling links.

By design, this compensation is free of restoring forces.

They are available with outer diameters ranging from 50mm to 300mm in different hub versions.

For a press-fit shaft connection, the design engineer can choose between clamp hubs or split-clamp hubs for drop-out installation or for higher torque requirements in a locking-assembly version.

The nominal torque capacity ranges from 44Nm to 7.040Nm.

To ensure an accurate transmission of torque, the all-metal coupling offers a high torsional stiffness up to 2.159kNm/rad.

Typical applications include printing machines, packaging machines or machine tools, rotary indexing systems, test units and material-handling machines.

Designed application-orientated coupling solutions offered by the Semiflex include: couplings with surface treatments; axially fixed couplings for applications with additional push-and-pull loads such as in special printing machines; couplings with larger outer diameters and higher torque capacity; modified versions for higher-temperature environments; and couplings with customised dimensions and shaft connections.

The axially fixed Loewe GK can be used for torque applications where the coupling has to resist axial motion.

As a result of the axial stiffness, the coupling ensures the precise transmission of push-and-pull loads.

The coupling combines the technical features of a single universal joint (angular misalignment capacity, axially fixed) and a shaft coupling (radial misalignment capacity).

Typical applications include valve triggering, pick-and-place machines, printed circuit board (PCB) machines, screw jacks and cylinders.

Diverse modified versions with special materials, shaft connections and dimensions are realised to meet customer’s needs, according to the company.

The standard range is available up to an outer diameter of 100mm.

For a special application with higher torque requirements, the engineers designed a special coupling in an increased size with higher performance data.
