Cranfield University has launched the Global Product Development and Management MSc, which provides techniques for integrating all global ‘players’ at different levels, from engineers to management.

Global product development is a method that is intended to utilise and manage the power of the global market to design and manufacture intelligent, sustainable and internationally competitive products.

The course is designed to develop employable leaders that are able to respond to the challenges and demands of modern globalised markets.

Graduates will possess advanced research skills.

They will also have been exposed to real-world technologies in the context of global product development and management.

This programme comprises eight assessed modules, a group project and an individual research project.

Modules include: Concept Engineering and Prototypying; Enterprise Systems; Use of Novel Materials and Manufacturing; Product Engineering and Costing; General Management; Product Life Cycle Management; Product Development Project; and Product Quality Control and Optimisation.

The group project involves students working in teams to fulfil demanding objectives within a tight timescale, applying advanced technologies and approaches and delivering results to a high professional standard.

Projects are industrially orientated and have the support of external organisations.

For part-time students, a dissertation usually replaces the group project.

The individual project gives students with the opportunity to demonstrate their ability to carry out independent research, to think and work in an original way, to contribute to knowledge and to overcome genuine manufacturing problems.

This course will enable graduates to progress to senior roles in a range of global businesses.

The partnership with Factura, an executive recruitment search, ensures that the programme is aligned with the requirements of employers and is well positioned to enable successful graduates to gain high-profile careers in their chosen fields.

Students benefit from high-quality facilities and associated equipment, including a cost studio, rapid prototyping machinery and a virtual-reality laboratory.

These support students in applied designing, managing and manufacturing products concurrently in a global distributed environment.

Students also have access to a 24h computer laboratory with specialist software, such as Teamcentre, SAP and CAD Catia and NX.
