The postgraduate-level Sports Surface Technology MSc has been developed in response to increased demand for multi-disciplinary managers, advisors and consultants in the sports surface industry.

Cranfield University’s Sports Surface Technology MSc by Research aims to provide students with an advanced theoretical and specialist understanding of the processes and practical tools necessary for effective sports turf management and to address real organisational problems in sports surface technology and management.

The key element of this course is a research project, which provides the opportunity to specialise in a particular area of study in line with the student’s career interests and aspirations.

Students attend a research training module and up to three other appropriate technical modules depending upon prior learning and project requirements.

The MSc by Research is assessed on the basis of the thesis and an oral examination.

Students will have access to facilities that promote a better understanding of the playability and management of natural sports surfaces.

These include soil dynamics laboratory, irrigation and drainage laboratory, soil physics and mechanics laboratory and biological and chemical analysis facilities.

Cranfield University developed this course in collaboration with sports organisations and governing bodies.
