Electro-Chemical Devices has launched the rugged CSX2 conductivity sensor suitable for high-pressure, high-temperature applications.

The sensor suits boiler control applications, blowdown control, condensate monitoring, leak detection on heat exchangers, and steam purity measurements.

The CSX2 conductivity sensor is said to offer maximum reliability and increased usable lifetime for harsh industrial processes.

The CSX2 is a two-electrode sensor that measures electrolytic conductivity at a range of 1.0-50,000uS.

It is designed for high-temperature service up to 200C at pressures of 250psig.

At temperatures below 100C, the CSX2 is rated for pressures up to 400psig.

The model CSX2 features rugged construction with a 316 stainless-steel outer body and centre electrode, separated by a Peek (poly ether ether ketone) internal insulator.

All possible leak paths are double-sealed with EPR O-rings for maximum on-stream reliability.

Industrial hot-water processes are severe environments for any elastomer, and the EPR front O-ring seals bear the brunt of the chemical attack to allow the back seals to remain relatively unaffected.

This redundant design increases the reliability of the CSX2, increasing the usable lifetime of the sensor in harsh applications to reduce instrument maintenance requirements and total lifecycle costs.

The CSX2 provides accurate and reliable conductivity measurement in a range of demanding industrial process plant applications.

It is suitable for use in petrochemical refining, electric power generation, food and beverage, metals and mining, and anywhere high-pressure steam boilers are in use.

The sensor features a weather-resistant aluminium junction box that allows easy access to the terminal strip or the signal conditioner.

The junction box is both explosion- and weatherproof and features a 0.75in FNPT connection.

It includes a low-temperature (80C) 0.5in polyamide cable gland with reducer bushing.

The signal conditioner amplifies the conductivity signal, allowing noise-free transmission for hundreds of feet.

A range of signal conditioners is available for the CSX2 sensor to optimise the conductivity measurement at specific ranges.

The signal conditioner can be mounted in the integral junction box at temperatures below 70C or located in the instrument or remote junction box at higher temperatures.

The measurement of conductivity and resistivity in liquid water-based solutions is essential in a range of industrial processes.

Conductivity and resistivity measure the electrical conductivity of a solution, which correlates to the purity of the water or the amount of dissolved ions in the liquid.

Accurate, reliable conductivity data is important when either recycling water for re-use within the plant to protect sensitive equipment and/or when discharging water from the plant into wastewater treatment systems.

The data helps ensure the effluent meets local, state and federal water quality standards to avoid plant shutdowns and costly fines.
