Harmer and Simmons has introduced two models in a range of DC power systems that enable telecom network operators to reduce energy consumption.

Harmer and Simmons is the telecom power division of AEG Power Solutions.

Engineered and built with Harmer and Simmons’ ecopx architecture, the MPi80HD (8kW) and MPi160HD (16kW) models are designed to reduce electricity consumption, the highest single contributor to mobile telecom operating costs.

The MPi models are said to increase power supply efficiency to 93 per cent due to advanced energy-saving and power-management features.

Designed to help reduce electricity consumption and the resulting carbon emissions, Harmer and Simmons’ ecopx solutions approach helps communications service providers and OEMs address sustainability issues.

Engineered to minimise heat generation while operating in high-temperature environments, the MPi range requires minimal cooling for each base station, further reducing energy consumption and CO2 emissions.

The company said MPi systems enhance customers’ ability to find solutions tailored to their specific requirements.

Their modular design also reduces lead times by as much as one-half, while simplifying and accelerating maintenance and parts replacement.

The initial MPi range 8kW and 16kW solutions will be followed by 40kW to 80kW and 120kW to 240kW models by mid-2010.

An advanced controller compatible with renewable energy sources such as solar and wind for hybrid power solutions will also be available by mid-year.
