At Southern Manufacturing 2013, Delcam will exhibit the 2013 releases of its Powershape CAD software and Powermill CAM system. Enhancements to each program enable users to increase productivity, reduce lead times and improve quality.

Powershape offers a range of solid-modelling, surface-modelling, direct-modelling and triangle-editing capabilities for design and reverse-engineering applications.

Powermill 2013’s main enhancement is the Vortex area clearance strategy.

Software in detail

Powershape 2013

  • One software package reduces the need to transfer data between multiple programs and streamlines the product development process.
  • The system includes Solid Doctor, a set of tools for the repair of CAD models from all sources, including IGES, Step and native Catia and Creo files.
  • Solid Doctor can be used to tackle all the common problems found when translating low-precision and incomplete data, including gaps and overlaps between surfaces, or duplicated and missing surfaces, and generate a valid, high-precision solid model.
  • A range of direct-modelling functionalities speed up and simplify concept development and enable tooling designers to tackle common problems found in product designs, such as insufficient fillet sizes.

Powermill 2013

  • Vortex has been developed to gain the maximum benefit from solid-carbide tooling — in particular designs that can give deeper cuts by using the full flute length as the cutting surface.
  • It can be used for two- and three-axis roughing, three-plus-two-axis area clearance and for rest machining based on stock models or reference toolpaths.
  • Vortex toolpaths have a controlled engagement angle and so tools will never be overloaded, therefore achieving maximum tool life.
  • Shock loading caused by changes in the contact angle is minimised, preventing chipping of the flutes.
  • The stability of the cutting conditions gives more consistent edge temperatures, prolonging the life of the tool coating and removing heat damage to the surface of the part.
