At the Industrie 2013 exhibition in Lyon, France, Delcam will present a robot machining demonstration featuring programs developed in Powermill CAM software running on a Kuka robot.

In addition, an inspection demonstration will highlight the benefits of using Delcam’s Powerinspect software to program a Romer portable inspection arm.

Delcam will also demonstrate Powermill for high-speed and five-axis machining; FeatureCAM for feature-based CAM programming; Partmaker for turn-mill equipment and Swiss-type lathes; Delcam for Solidworks integrated CAM software; and ArtCAM for artistic applications.

Applications for robot machining include the production of sculptures and models for theme parks and film sets, the trimming and drilling of composite components for marine and other transport applications and the grinding and finishing of metal parts.

Industrie 2013 will be held on 16–19 April at Eurexpo.

Key benefits

Powermill for robot machining

  • Robot machining interface makes it easier to generate programs for robots
  • Ability to program the robot offline from CAD data is faster and more efficient than the ‘teach and learn’ approach
  • Cost of installing a robot is less than that of a large machine tool with a similar working envelope
  • Flexibility of the robot means that complex operations can be carried out in a single setup

Powerinspect for inspection

  • Powerinspect combines the ability to work with all types of inspection device with a range of inspection routines for taking simple measurements, for inspection of geometric features and for analysing complex 3D surfaces
  • Resulting reports present detailed information in an easy-to-read format
  • Dual-device inspection options allow measurement with two portable devices at the same time
  • Software supports simultaneous operation of different types of device, including laser scanners, from different manufacturers

Delcam supplies software and services that help manufacturing companies to maximise their profitability by increasing productivity, improving quality and reducing lead times. The company is the world's largest specialist supplier of computer-aided machining software, with its PowerMILL, FeatureCAM, Partmaker and ArtCAM programs making up the most comprehensive range of CAM systems from any developer.

This broad selection allows Delcam to offer a CAM system capable of machining virtually any product, in any material on any type of equipment. Delcam also develops product design, tooling design and quality control programs. The unique Tribrid Modelling approach to design incorporates solid modelling, surface modelling and triangle modelling in a single program, enabling complete design and reverse engineering projects to be undertaken without transferring data between software.

Delcam's Powerinspect offers fast, reliable comparison of parts, prototypes and tooling against CAD data on all types of inspection equipment and even on machine tools. This versatility has made it the world's leading hardware-independent inspection software. Related programs are available for checking machine tool set-up and part location. Delcam software is used in over 80 countries worldwide by around 40,000 organisations, from large multi-nationals to small sub-contractors, in industries including aerospace, automotive, dental, engineering, footwear, medical and toolmaking.
