Electrode design, machining and inspection can be completed more efficiently thanks to a development from Delcam that draws on advances made in the company’s Powershape CAD software, Powermill CAM system and Powerinspect inspection software, as well as a new file format, the .Trode file.

The .Trode file contains all the information for each electrode project, including the design, machining and inspection information as well as setup sheets for its manufacture and use.

  • An increased range of direct modelling tools are now available, with analysis tools available to check that draft angles and minimum radii in the design will not cause downstream problems.

  • Inspection points can also be added to make the measurement of the electrode in Powerinspect automated to a large extent.
  • Setup sheets for the electrode’s manufacture and use can then be produced automatically.
  • A documentation pack, including the GA and detail sheets, can be issued as drawings, HTML files or Microsoft Excel spreadsheets.
  • Powershape automatically colour-codes the burn, clearance and blank faces of the electrode so they can be recognised in Powermill.
  • Material block size and spark gaps for the electrodes are also read from the .Trode file and applied to toolpaths automatically.
  • Once templates have been created, generating the machining toolpaths becomes a fully automated process.
