At the Total Process and Packaging Exhibition on 4–6 June 2013, Dixon will showcase its range of hygienic fittings and actuated valves on a stainless steel fabricated display. The company’s stainless steel fittings, unions, tubes, pumps and valves are suitable for the food, dairy, beverage and brewery industries.

Fittings are available ex-stock in a variety of types (RJT, SMS, DIN, IDF and Triclamp) with sizes from 0.5–12in and are supplied either fully polished or complete with polished outside diameter and bright annealed or tumbled inside diameter. The range includes full FDA- and 3A-approved products and includes high-purity BPE standard biopharm weld fittings, tees, elbows and reducers for pharmaceutical applications.

Dixon will also highlight its range of hygienic FDA-approved hoses and hose assemblies. Thanks to their odourless and taste-free properties, the products are suitable for the transfer of liquid foodstuffs. A range of valves, including seat valves, mix-proof valves and diaphragm valves, will also be on show.

The company has recently launched a range of manual and actuated multi-way hygienic and industrial ball valves from 0.5–4in and hygienic butterfly valves with EPDM, silicone or Viton seals from 1–10in. The valves can be actuated to customer specification with a range of accessories including limit switches, solenoids and positioners. Dixon offers same-day and next-day delivery on most standard actuated valves and custom fabrications subject to customer requirements.

Dixon will be exhibiting on stand E59 at the Total event.

Case study: valves for non-hygienic application

  • Dixon’s valve range is not restricted to hygienic applications — the company also offers industrial actuated valves for use within the process industries.
  • In one instance, a paint manufacturer required a solution for moving paint that was accumulating in the void behind the ball on its non-encapsulated SVF ball valves.
  • Dixon investigated and found that the titanium dioxide additive within the paint was causing premature failure of the standard ball valves being used. The company concluded that the best solution would include an encapsulated ball valve, a seal with higher abrasion resistance and a larger actuator.
  • The valve system was put through a one-year in-service test and was a success, resulting in greater service life than the current system at a competitive price.
