Dugard has launched an ISO 50 taper, twin 800mm pallet, moving-column machining centre with 40-tool magazine, Fanuc control and optical scale positioning for higher-accuracy, heavier-duty cycles.

The Dugard Eagle MH-800 is constructed on a one-piece Meehanite base and saddle to provide a heavy-duty, rigid machining platform.

To this structure, heavy-duty linear ways are added and set on a wide span to provide high stability, while accommodating rapid traverse rates of 20m per minute in each axis of 1,000mm in X, 800mm in Y and 750mm in Z.

This build strategy also allows a positioning accuracy of +/-0.004mm and a repeatability of +/-0.003mm to be maintained, using high-quality optical scale technology.

In a typical Dugard Eagle specification, the machine uses a long-nose design of ISO 50 spindle with 4,500rpm available as standard from the 18.5kW drive with three-step high- torque gearing.

Also included is 20bar through the spindle coolant supply.

Each of the twin 800mm by 800mm pallets can be loaded up to 1.2 tonnes and provides indexing to 0.001 degrees.

Pallet exchange time is within 1.8 seconds and a pallet wash is also standard.

As a standard fitment, the 60-tool chain magazine can be upgraded to 80 tools, taking tooling units up to 8kg in weight.

Control is via Fanuc Oi-MC with Fanuc’s 18i-MB system also available as an option.

Rigid tapping, tool length and workpiece measurement can also be supplied by Dugard, while swarf handling, including a conveyor system, is standard.
