Newson Gale has launched the Earth-Rite Plus, which has been designed to safely remove static electricity from plant equipment and eliminate the risk of uncontrolled static spark charges.

Static electricity is capable of providing an ignition source in areas where many combustible powders are processed or handled.

The amount of energy required will depend on the explosive characteristics of the dust/air mix, but in order to control these risks, the Earth-Rite Plus may be used to safely dissipate electrostatic charges from plant equipment and prevent uncontrolled incendive static spark discharges.

The Earth-Rite Plus continuously monitors the connection to the potentially charged object and the system’s own connection to the designated site plant earth, ensuring any static charges generated on the object are removed from the hazardous area.

The Earth-Rite Plus includes an SDP controller (static dissipative polyester) with an intrinsically safe monitoring module; a universal grounding clamp with 5m of two conductor Hytrel-protected cable; and a junction box with stowage pin for stowing the universal grounding clamp.

Three green LEDs continuously pulse when the object to be earthed has a 10 ohm (or less) connection to the designated site plant earth.

When the system is not in use, or when it detects the resistance in the static dissipative loop is higher than 10ohms, a red LED illuminates the indicator panel located in the SDP indicator station.

Continuous ground loop monitoring monitors the resistance of the static dissipative loop from the earthed object through to the plant earthing point.

If the system detects that resistance in the loop is higher than 10ohms, it engages a pair of output contacts.

The primary contact can interlock with electromechanical devices or PLC systems to shut down the flow of product.

The secondary contact can interface with audible alarms or strobe lights to provide an extra degree of safety.

Simple bolt-on SDP enclosures are complemented by straightforward cabling and PCB system wiring requirements.

Flexible hazardous area enclosure location options are available with separate IS monitoring/indicator and power supply PCBs.

The power supply can run off both 240V and 110V mains supply.
