Sodick has launched the AQ1200L linear-motor-driven wire EDM, which is suitable for large mould applications, as well as machining large components for the automotive, aerospace and energy sectors.

The AQ1200L can handle a maximum work-piece weight of 4,000kg and maximum work-piece dimensions of 1,600 x 1,200 x 400mm.

Its X/Y/Z axis travel is 1,200 x 800 x 400mm (Z= 600mm optional) with U/V axis travel of 1,220 x 820mm.

The system employs a direct-drive, frictionless and vibration-free mechanism that, according to the company, features unrivalled acceleration and positioning accuracy with no backlash, providing maximum precision.

The AQ1200L features a glass-scale feedback to provide true machine positioning at all times, with the scales mounted on the moving axes, enabling them to consistently measure machine accuracy.

The use of glass-scale feedback in conjunction with linear-drive motors guarantees high machining accuracy.

Along with a host of standard features, including the recycle circuit that saves on energy costs by recycling unused discharged pulses, as well as the electrolysis-free circuit that eliminates oxidation and improves part straightness, the AQ1200L also comes with Sodick’s 10-year positioning warranty.
