Bilfinger GreyLogix, a manufacturer of complex control cabinets, is now working with EPLAN Engineering Configuration One (EEC One) and, as a result, has reduced its design time by more than 50 per cent.

Bilfinger GreyLogix specialises in large automation technology projects that require engineering expertise as well as industry-specific know-how. This is why its design teams are organised into various business units that each focus on specific market segments such as oil and gas, food and beverage and the chemical/pharmaceutical industries.

Thomas Besser, team leader for the CAE Centre of Excellence, said: ‘We don’t have any standard projects, so there is no learning curve either. It makes expertise and experience all the more important.’ This applies to programming, which constitutes the majority of the work, but also to electrical design and switchgear cabinet engineering. GreyLogix has always relied on a high degree of automation: ‘We recognised early on that we have to be strong in project and process management. We want to offer our customers additional value: be smarter and work more intelligently. We’re continually working on this.’

EEC One is a recent addition to the tools that GreyLogix uses for electrical engineering. The software allows schematics to be generated automatically, based on an Excel interface. This requires a specific approach: the engineer enters basic parameters into a table, such as the voltage. Next, he or she selects components from an individually configured list, such as ‘75kW motor’, hits the ‘configuration’ button and receives the wiring diagrams.

EPLAN Pro Panel
EPLAN Pro Panel is a CAE solution for the 3D engineering of control cabinets and switchgear systems. The software aids the 3D configuration of control cabinets, virtual 3D wiring, NC data for wire assembly and copper rail configuration. The EPLAN platform connects control configuration and 3D control cabinet assembly facilitating a consistent data exchange, increasing project quality and accelerating the entire engineering process.
EPLAN PPE
EPLAN PPE is CAE software for the planning and configuration for process engineering machines and systems. The automatic production of detailed reports is an integral part of a comprehensive documentation system and provides subsequent phases of the project, such as production, assembly, commissioning and service with the data required.
EPLAN Harness proD
EPLAN Harness proD is an innovative 3D tool for the development of wire harnesses. Until now, using a CAD system to design wire harnesses was no easy task. Calculating wire lengths, manually producing production documentation and performing endless alterations to prototypes can be time and labour intensive. With Harness proD this is a thing of the past. Automation is integral to the software, from calculating bundle diameters and wire lengths, routing wires, performing collision checks, generating documentation and creating 2D nailboard drawings.
EPLAN Engineering Centre One
EPLAN Engineering Centre One (EEC One) is the first step to towards automated circuit diagram generation for electrical and fluid engineering. The software provides internationally operating companies with a professional solution to facilitate the automatic creation of circuit diagrams. Pre-defined standards such as circuit board elements or value sets are automatically collated into a wiring diagram based on Excel, thus simplifying machine design.
