When starting a new project, the first challenge faced by almost every electrical designer is to produce the schematic diagram. This is no longer the time-consuming process it once was thanks to the increasingly widespread use of computer-aided engineering (CAE) software, such as EPLAN Electric P8. However, developing the schematic is only the first step – there are other challenges to address before the project is completed. EPLAN once again has a software tool to deal with these challenges: EPLAN Pro Panel for 3D engineering of control panels and switchgear systems. 

EPLAN Pro Panel allows users to adopt the workflow approach they find most convenient. They can, for example, base the panel design on equipment and connection lists or on circuit diagrams, or they can simply drag and drop components into place in a ‘virtual control panel’.

Whichever approach they adopt, EPLAN Pro Panel facilitates the optimum use of panel space, as well as ensuring that design rules are always followed. These rules could include minimum spacing distances for components and minimum allowable bending radiuses for cables. The software also checks for errors, such as overlapping components that would clash when the panel door was closed. As the software works in 3D, users can be confident that their finished design is free of problems.

By using the panel layout in conjunction with the schematic diagram, EPLAN Pro Panel allows the panel to be wired virtually, working out the optimum cable routing and, if required, all of the resulting cable lengths. For panels with copper busbars and connections, there is an extension module available for the software, which generates details of all copper work, including data on bending, drilling and punching. The data can be produced in the form of drawings or in machine-readable form for direct transfer to numerically controlled production systems.

EPLAN PPE

EPLAN Harness proD
EPLAN Harness proD is an innovative 3D tool for the development of wire harnesses. Until now, using a CAD system to design wire harnesses was no easy task. Calculating wire lengths, manually producing production documentation and performing endless alterations to prototypes can be time and labour intensive. With Harness proD this is a thing of the past. Automation is integral to the software, from calculating bundle diameters and wire lengths, routing wires, performing collision checks, generating documentation and creating 2D nailboard drawings.
EPLAN Engineering Centre One
EPLAN Engineering Centre One (EEC One) is the first step to towards automated circuit diagram generation for electrical and fluid engineering. The software provides internationally operating companies with a professional solution to facilitate the automatic creation of circuit diagrams. Pre-defined standards such as circuit board elements or value sets are automatically collated into a wiring diagram based on Excel, thus simplifying machine design.
