ESAB has introduced Dual Shield 55 and Dual Shield 62 – all-positional, rutile, low-hydrogen, flux-cored wires for the welding of high-strength steels.

The wires offer weld metal yield strengths of 550 and 620MPa minimum respectively and a good level of toughness down to -40C.

They produce flat beads with good wetting and smooth appearance.

Both wires are designed for use in Ar/CO2 shielding gas.

These wires have a soft, spatter-free arc that always operates in the spray arc mode.

It is easy to obtain flat welds with a good penetration and smooth wetting onto the plate edges while using these wries, according to ESAB.

The brittle slag can be easily removed leaving behind a smooth weld appearance.

Typical positional welding defects such as lack of fusion and slag inclusions are avoided, due to the spray arc operation.

The wires have a good tolerance for fit-up variations.

High-quality one-sided root runs can be made economically on ceramic backing.

The wire formulation provides a fast freezing slag that supports the weld pool in positional welding.

Deposition rates in vertical up welding can reach up to 4kg/h (100 per cent duty cycle).

Welding parameters are optimised per welding position for maximum productivity, but one single setting can be selected for all positions (230A), making it suitable for fit-up work.

Diffusible hydrogen satisfies the EN H5 class tested under the conditions prescribed in the classification standard and remains low over a wide parameter box.

As part of ESAB, a world leading supplier of welding and cutting solutions, ESAB Group (UK) Ltd have access to a product research and development programme, the envy of the welding industry.

The brand is synonymous with world leading expertise  and today the company produces consumables and equipment for virtually every welding and cutting process and application.

As a logical step following his invention of the covered welding electrode back in 1904, Oscar Kjellberg founded ESAB. Since then, the company has constantly improved on existing methods and materials. At the same time, ESAB has developed new methods to meet the challenge presented by technological progress.

More than 100 years of continuous research, development and manufacture have made ESAB a world leader in welding, cutting and also an international supplier of products, know-how and services that none can match.

At is UK headquarters, ESAB Group (UK) Ltd have a team of highly experienced and qualified staff who are always available to offer help and advice on all aspects of welding and cutting.
