At IMTS in Chicago, Delcam will demonstrate the probing abilities of its FeatureCAM feature-based CAM software, which is suitable for applications such as 2D and 3D milling, five-axis simultaneous machining, high-speed milling, turning, turn/milling, live tooling and wire EDM.

Probing paths can be generated for five feature types: pockets; obstructed pockets and webs; inside or outside corners; bosses, bores and obstructed bores; radial bosses, bores and obstructed bores; and single surfaces.

The company said that incorporating probing sequences into CAM programs makes it easier to begin unsupervised production operations as it enables automated checks to be carried out before, during and after machining.
